This is a surgery performed when the pressure in the orbit needs to be reduced as in cases of thyroid orbitopathy, bleeding into the orbit, etc. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and is done endoscopically through the nose. The procedure carries a much lesser morbidity as compared to the transcranial route which was the earlier approach of choice.
