Adenoidectomy

Mouth breathing, snoring and difficulty in breathing through the nose are common complaints encountered in children. These could indicate the presence of enlarged adenoids (lymphoid tissue behind the nose). An adenoidectomy is performed in such cases. The procedure is done through the oral cavity under general anesthesia. Enlarged adenoids could also obstruct the eustachian tube leading to middle ear effusions. In such cases an adenoidectomy is combined with a myringotomy. This can be done as a day care procedure.
