Microlaryngoscopic Surgery

Microlaryngeal surgery is performed for a variety of lesions ranging from benign vocal cord swellings to malignant tumors of the larynx. Patients with such lesions usually present with a change in voice, vocal fatigue or, in advanced cases, with difficulty in breathing and occasionally in swallowing. The procedure involves either removing the lesion completely or taking a biopsy for a histopathological diagnosis. This surgery is carried out under general anesthesia and is done transorally without external incisions. Laser may be used when indicated. This can be done as a day-care procedure.
